Value in Social Networks research
UPDATES: Given the volume of responses we received we have extended our study!
RESEARCH INVITATION: Professors Perotti and Hair are pleased to announce a bleeding edge research project on consumers’ perceptions of value in social networking. As avid users of sites such as facebook and myspace, we need your assistance as participants in three key stages of our research. Will you participate? The research will take place in three stages outlined below. After each stage, we will analyze the results and prepare the research documents for the next stage. We appreciate your help in understanding this new and important web phenomenon.
Stage 1: Today! Or very soon!
We believe that the features available at social networking websites play an important role in attracting and keeping users. For this reason, we are interested in learning more about the features of the sites you use where you receive value. We don’t want to define value for you, and we don’t want to define which sites you should consider when providing your answers. What we’re interested in identifying in this first stage of three is a list of features that you use (be it sharing photos or sharing information for example). Please think outside of the box, that’s why we’re asking you to participate!
INSTRUCTIONS: We would like you to list features of social networking sites you use, and provide a sentence or two on why/how these features provide you with value. Please email these to us at either neilhair@hotmail.com or vperotti@cob.rit.edu.
Stage 2: Mid November
With your permission we will ask you to rank in order of importance the collected features we have received. While individuals are vital to Web 2.0, the point of this stage is to try to find the common ground among all those surveyed. Let’s just say we’re inclusive kind of guys and if nothing else you get to see what compulsive disorders plague the collective society of RIT students.
Stage 3: Mid December
Finally we will ask you more deep and meaningful questions about why these features are important to you. Expect this to ruin your weekend, probe into meaningful issues of self, and have you crying on your friends’ shoulders. The collective results will deeply enrich your lives and give us all meaning. Well - at least make us happy as we develop R.I.T.’s reputation in this cool new area.
Best wishes, Professors Hair and Perotti.
