I would be a little skeptical about this because there is a fair possibility that this could make the system unstable. Smaller companies have tried this before (legally or illegally), and the feedback is that they made the system very unstable. One could argue that it is not likely that Apple would create bad quality products but then again -
Nobody thought Microsoft would create something like Windows ME.
